2021 • 3 years • Chicago Commitment

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the regional planning organization for Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties. CMAP is governed by balanced representation from across the seven counties that serve on a range of policy and advisory boards, all designed to strengthen local governance, planning, and capacities to improve quality of life in the region. CMAP also helps the region’s 284 local governments to address transportation, housing, economic development, the environment, and other quality of life issues. A centerpiece of the support CMAP provides to local governments is the Capacity Building (C-Build) Services program designed to address the increasingly complex issues that many localities face. C-Build Services assists communities hampered by local resource constraints—specifically, the availability of knowledge and skills, staff time, or funding. This renewed award to CMAP supports the work of C-Build Services to address the major impediments to improving the quality of life in suburban communities surrounding Chicago.

C-Build Services targets communities hampered by local resource constraints—specifically, the availability of knowledge and skills, staff time, or funding. Recognizing the resource and capacity constraints of many local governments, Foundation funding to CMAP partially underwrites the work of C-Build Services and is designed to address the major impediments to collective efforts to improve quality of life in suburban communities surrounding Chicago.

2014 • 2 years • Community & Economic Development

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the regional planning organization for northeastern Illinois that advises the region’s communities on transportation, housing, economic development, environmental and other quality-of-life issues. Flooding in the region has led to considerable private property damage, loss of economic activity, and highly polluted runoff finding its way into the region’s drinking water supply. This grant will be used to enhance CMAP’s flood modeling capacity and its ability to provide technical assistance to communities about storm water management.
