Founded in 1986, Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) presents the plays of William Shakespeare, stages theatrical productions by playwrights other than Shakespeare, and conducts education and community engagement programs. Each season features up to 15 productions. Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks is presented free of charge, welcoming 3,500 residents annually. Education initiatives serve Chicago Public Schools, including the Shakespeare Slam performance showcase, which invites more than 300 high school students and teachers to interpret Shakespeare's work through their own lived experiences. This award provides general operating support to Chicago Shakespeare Theater as part of the Foundation’s Culture, Equity, and the Arts program.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater presents the plays of William Shakespeare, stages theatrical productions by playwrights other than Shakespeare, and conducts education and outreach programs. Each season features up to 20 productions that reach approximately 250,000 patrons. With this award for professional development, staff participates in training at the Human Resources Certification Institute and the Wharton School of Business’s HR Management and Analytics certificate program.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) presents the plays of William Shakespeare, stages theatrical productions by playwrights other than Shakespeare, and conducts education and outreach programs. Each season features up to 20 productions that reach approximately 250,000 patrons. Located on Chicago’s Navy Pier, CST's 500-seat Courtyard Theater is modeled after the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre. The Yard at CST is a flexible performance space that can be configured for audiences ranging from 150 to 850. Theater Upstairs is a 200-seat performance space in which both the stage and seating configuration can be arranged in a variety of ways. Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks is presented free of charge in 18 Chicago neighborhoods. Education initiatives serve 90 Chicago Public Schools. This award provides general operating support to CST as part of the Foundation’s Culture, Equity, and the Arts program.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is a professional theater company whose core mission is to present the plays of William Shakespeare; additionally it commissions and presents new work, mounts the work of other leading playwrights, brings international theatrical groups to Chicago, and engages in outreach and education programs. In 2016 the worldwide Shakespeare community will mark the 400th year of Shakespeare’s death with public performances, programs, exhibitions and creative activities. The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is serving as chief curator and producer for Chicago’s year-long, citywide Shakespeare festival. This grant funds activities related to the planning and execution of the 2016 Shakespeare festival.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is a professional theater company whose core mission is to present the plays of William Shakespeare; additionally it commissions and presents new work, the work of other leading playwrights, and international theatrical groups. It conducts extensive outreach and education. The Theater presents up to 18 full-scale productions each year. More than 225,000 people attend its 650 performances throughout the year. This grant will be used to support programmatic and physical space expansion, educational initiatives and general operations of Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater performs the plays of William Shakespeare and educates audiences, children and teachers about his work. In addition, it brings international theatrical groups to Chicago, presents the work of other leading playwrights, and conducts an extensive program of outreach and education. This grant will support the Theater’s participation in the 2012 London Cultural Olympiad with an original production of a hip hop version of Othello that will be featured at the Globe Theater’s Globe to Globe Festival. Chicago Shakespeare is the only English speaking company invited to participate. MacArthur funds will support travel, the development and staging of the new play, and artist and production staff fees.
