The World Wildlife Foundation released a report on the health of the Mira-Mataje River Basin in Ecuador and Colombia with recommendations for improved conservation. The report examines four components of the basin’s health: water use and quality, biodiversity, relationship to climate change, and governance and living conditions. The basin has sociocultural significance to both countries as well as numerous indigenous people and is an important source of biodiversity in the region. Recommendations from grantee the World Wildlife Fund include supporting a conservation plan that stakeholders in the local communities helped create.
