A MacArthur-supported study from the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University finds that the Internet remains relatively open to free speech and dissent in Russia, in contrast to the country’s more tightly controlled offline media.  Digitally-Mediated Collective Action and the Networked Public Sphere examines the Russian blogosphere, Twitter, and other media sources and finds vibrant and diverse discourse on Russian political and social issues, lessening the influence of the country’s government on its media ecosystem.
