Civil society organizations working to protect human rights around the world are being bombarded with persistent and disruptive computer espionage attacks, according to a report from The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs. The report asserts that while industry and government face the same attacks, civil society organizations have far fewer resources to  respond – a gap that poses challenges for the sustainable promotion of rights and democracy worldwide. The report documents attacks on ten civil society organizations over four years and asserts that remediation of this issue will require collaborations among funders, civil society, the private sector, and governments.
